“Noah, a promising young artist who has just won a prestigious university award, is grappling with inner turmoil as he hides an explosive secret that could ruin all he has worked for. As his best friend and classmate, Natalie, uncovers the truth, their bond is tested amidst a backdrop of unspoken desires and shattered dreams. Set in Noah’s city apartment, this intimate drama explores the fragile boundaries between love and betrayal, right and wrong, leaving audiences questioning the weight of silence and the cost of revealing one’s true self.”

Directors statement

As the director of In Between, I am deeply honored to bring this story to life. This fall, I will be entering my third year at Boston University, and the past two years have been eye-opening in understanding what it means to be a young artist. This script initially caught my eye due to its profound exploration of the layered friendship between Noah and Natalie, marked by a constant push and pull as they uncover each other's secrets.

There is something truly special about the bond between two artists who support each other’s dreams, and this script beautifully captures the nuances of such friendships. My hope is that the audience will appreciate the deep love and care that Noah and Natalie have for one another and feel their journey deeply.

Both of my actors come from a theater background, so I approached rehearsals in a way that mirrored theater practices. This method helped my actors feel comfortable and pushed them to discover subtle moments that might be missed on stage but can shine on camera. The filming process itself was remarkably smooth, thanks to the team’s extensive preparations and our collective dedication to the project.

I am incredibly proud of how In Between turned out and am eager to share this film with audiences far and wide. I look forward to hearing feedback on how this story resonates with viewers.

Writers statement

I initially started writing “In Between” in August of 2023. However, I got really busy with my sophomore year at college and had to put the project on hold. It wasn’t until I returned home for Christmas break, after my first semester, that I revisited my writing. During this break, with a semester’s worth of new experiences under my belt, I found the inspiration that ultimately became “In Between.”

My goal for this film was to create an intimate experience. I aimed to diverge from the conventional short film structure, opting instead to make the film feel like a fly-on-the-wall glimpse into a private moment. The themes I wanted to explore include isolation, hidden truths, coming of age, and sexuality.

I have spent the majority of my time as a young adult honing in on my skills as an actor and training with the best of the best. my own experiences heavily influenced the themes of the film. I wanted to delve into what it means to be an artist in your 20s and the relentless pursuit of a dream that many say may never come true. This film is a reflection of the passion, struggles, and triumphs that come with following one’s artistic journey.

I hope “In Between” resonates with audiences, offering a raw and honest portrayal of the complexities of young adulthood.
